‘Captain Marvel’, starring Brie Larson, officially broke records in its weekend opening having $153 million ticket sales in North America alone and $455 million ticket sales worldwide.
According to Marvel, the movie’s huge earnings make it the highest-grossing female-led movie ever. It also now ranks as the second-largest superhero movie following Avengers: Infinity War. The latter has an earning $640.5 million in ticket sales.
“Marvel Studios once again proves that stories combining diverse perspectives and different experiences make great movies that play to everybody. People crave representation,” says Disney distribution chief Cathleen Taff.
The movie, which opened in the weekend of International Women’s Day, surpassed Beauty and the Beast’s (starring Emma Watson) $357 million earnings in 2017. It also surpassed the groundbreaking achievement of DC’s Wonder Woman, which earned $103 million on its first weekend.
This success comes after trolls’ effort to sandbag its movie scores on Rotten Tomatoes before its release date. Good thing, Rotten Tomato has now disabled the site’s comment functionality that enables users to review movies prior to their release dates.
With the movie’s groundbreaking achievement, trolls can shove their negative reviews up their arse because Captain Marvel is clearly whooping asses in the box office.
We’ll see more of Carol Danvers in the upcoming and the final Avengers movie, Avengers: Endgame, which opens on April 26.
