Due to bad eating habits and smoking, your teeth get stains, plaque, tartar or other oral health problems, to lighten the shade of your teeth, here are some ways to help you.
Practise Good Oral Hygiene
Brushing your teeth regularly by taking time to brush up on its corners could help to lighten your teeth, at a minimum of four minutes a day – two in the morning and two in the evening – you get to practice good oral hygiene. “There is some evidence that powered toothbrushes are better, particularly the ones with the small heads, but if you have a good technique, it doesn’t matter what you use,” says Prof Damien Walmsley, an adviser at the British Dental Association. Don’t forget to floss and gargle some mouthwash.
Eat Some Pineapples
Many believe that the enzyme found in pineapple known as bromelain helps to remove tooth stains and whiten teeth. Moreover, its juice is suggested to be taken before and after tooth extraction to reduce inflammation and swelling.
Eat Some Strawberries
According to Dr. Richard Marques, a celebrity dentist, “The key thing is that strawberries contain malic acid, which whitens the teeth,” same goes for apples, carrots, and celery. The malic acid content they have has the power to dissolve stains on the teeth, giving a cleansing effect.
Eat Some Cheese
The harder the structure of the cheese is, the more benefit it has to cleanse and whiten the teeth. “Whiter cheeses are better,” said Marques, comparing it to the brie and blue cheese. Moreover, cheese does not only is for cleansing and whitening the teeth but also contains minerals to strengthen the outer covering of the tooth called enamel, “It’s got calcium in it for a start, which is really good for your teeth,” he said.
Sugar supports the growth of bacteria, which causes the production of plaque and gingivitis. So if you want to whiten your teeth, limit your sugar intake. If you have eaten something sweet, brush your teeth as soon as you can.
Use Baking Soda
Baking soda is one of the kitchen essentials used for cleaning (home remedies) and baking, but don’t you know that you could mix baking soda with your toothpaste to whiten your teeth? In a study conducted in 2011, a group of researchers has found that toothpaste with baking soda is more effective at cleansing and whitening teeth compared to regular silica-based toothpaste. You could also try mixing a teaspoon of baking soda with a small glass of water to prevent stains.
Use Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching agent that not just whiten the teeth but also kills bacteria in your mouth. Many products have already hydrogen peroxide due to its properties. In a study conducted about hydrogen peroxide, it was said that 5% of it was as effective as a 25% solution at whitening teeth. All you need to do is mix a few teaspoons of baking soda with a small amount of peroxide, and use the paste with your toothbrush. Start brushing.
