Work and boredom should be separate at all times. Nobody wants to get in trouble by doing inappropriate things when bored at work. (image source)
When it’s not your break time yet so you can’t take a nap or check your social media accounts, do these instead:
- Make meal plans and a grocery list. Especially if you’re planning for a whole family, this will make your errands at home go smoother.
- Review your work schedule. Prepare yourself mentally by visualizing the days ahead. Check if you forgot an important meeting or deadline.
- Read something important. If you find yourself saying “I don’t have the time to read this,” well… there it is!
- Organize your email. This isn’t just a thing only OC people should do. Check if you misread or even skipped some important emails.
- Check your daily tasks. Perhaps you’re just bored because you did less than you should. Complete unfinished tasks and make your list for the next day.
- Organize your desk and declutter. A clear workspace, a clear mind.
- Journal. It’s also a chance for you to layout your personal schedule and sees how it fits with your job events coming up.
- Record business cards. It’s time to digitize those contacts before you lose them.
- Think about long-term strategy. There’s no harm in getting ahead of your work plans.
- Watch a Ted Talk. Make your time valuable by learning things. You can even multitask while listening if you want to.
- Meditate or pray. Stress building up? Use your break to relieve and compose yourself.
- Know more about your industry. Pair your experience with relevant knowledge to make your way to the top.
- Daydream. It gets your imagination and creative side going. Do it in moderation, of course.
- Learn a new language or take an online course. Invest in your best capital, yourself, and become more valuable.
- Stretch or take a quick walk. Relieve body tension and give your mind a short break. If you’re allowed to, go out for a quick walk. It gives you some fresh air and that much-needed exercise, too.
