From Tumblr to Pinterest or Instagram. Them healthy trends are everywhere. Health and fitness will always continue to trend because our health is important. We’re in this body until we die, so we need to care good care of it.
And whether we like or not, no matter how marketers try to make us believe otherwise, eating healthy and exercising are the only ways to be healthy. There is just no shortcut.
The Dangers of Health Inspirations
Sadly, the Internet has a detrimental role in turning health trends into a competition. Today, you’ll see a lot of people posting “gym selfies” or photos of healthy “homemade, organic” salad they claim to have had for lunch or dinner. Some celebrities even share dangerous tips to get in shape painlessly and quickly.
And it’s all for the sake of getting “likes“. They do it so often you can almost believe they’re living a healthy lifestyle. But in reality, they don’t observe it at all.
This is not to say that all “healthy” people on the Internet are phonies. There are few who choose to share their own experiences and transformation to inspire others. Their goal is to be a genuine motivational material exuding positivity for others. There is definitely nothing wrong with that.
The danger lies in the way people receive these “motivational materials.” Rather than being inspirational, it becomes a destructive medium. It compels people to project a fake “perfect life” in the virtual world. It causes them to compare their realities against others’ fake lives.
And to not appear as if they’re left behind, they post their own picture-perfect moments to make others believe they’re living their best lives too. By doing this, they aren’t able to focus on bettering themselves in real life. They instead focus on capturing their best selfie or finding the best angle or filter for their “salad shot.”
The Takeaway
At the end of the day, it all boils down to how users receive and view the massive literature of health trends available on the Internet. Everyone is, of course, free to share and post whatever they want online.
However, we should all keep in mind that, whenever we enter the deceiving virtual world, our core values as a person should remain grounded in what is real in our lives. That whenever we join a trend, it is because it sparks joy in our hearts.
