Every girl knows the feeling of frustration that comes with the failed attempt to achieve her desired look. If you’re like most girls, you’ve probably experienced spending hours styling your hair only to end up greatly unsatisfied with the final look. One probable reason for this is doing the five blow-drying mistakes.

Read on to find out what they are and how to avoid them:

  • Starting when your hair is too wet

Hair that is too wet is a lot harder to style and will require more heat in order to dry quickly. But exposure to more heat will result in burned and damaged hair.

Make sure your hair is 60% dry before blow-drying. Dry your hair with a towel first to remove excess water. Then, allow it to air-dry for 10 – 15 minutes.

  • Skipping heat protection

Heat protective hair products help style your hair more easily. It adds body, bounce, and volume to your hair, so you can achieve the look that you desire. However, aside from the short-term aesthetic benefits, these products also help prevent hair breakage. They also provide protection from the long-term side effects of blow-drying, such as dryness and frizziness.

Remember to never skip applying heat protective products on your hair before beginning the meticulous process of blow-drying.

  • Using metal brushes

Hairbrushes are located on a wooden table, hairdressing tools on the background.

Metal brushes absorb heat quickly causing it to overheat and amplify the damage on your hair. So, throw away your metal brushes and use ceramic ones or those with nylon or boar bristles instead. They’re a lot easier to use as they come with a better grip. And more importantly, they don’t overheat!

  • Blow-drying with a high wrong temperature setting

You might want to think twice about pushing the high-heat button on your blow-dryer. That’s because using inappropriate high heat setting causes damage to your hair. It helps to know the type or texture of your hair when selecting the right heat setting. The rule of thumb is to use a high heat setting for thick or coarse hair, and a low heat setting for thin or fine hair.

  • Blow-drying just one area

Keeping your blow-dryer in just one area exposes that part of your hair to more heat. This results in drier hair and an uneven finish. Instead, move the dryer around your head while brushing. Also, be sure to divide and dry your hair into smaller sections for a smoother and more even finish.

Old habits die hard. Breaking away from these mistakes might take some time and hard work. But by mastering the right way of blow-drying your hair, you will be rewarded with locks, so stylish and healthy that every girl will be jealous of.
