How to improve yourself
We live in a constantly changing world. And in today’s age where social media dramatically affects how we see ourselves, we feel the pressure, now more than ever, to present a perfect image ourselves. But in many instances, our “social media self” doesn’t coincide with our real personality. The mismatch between the two often results in depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses.
That’s why, now more than ever, we need to focus on improving ourselves from within. We need to start doing things that truly contribute to our well-being. In this post, we’ll a few tips to help you become a better person.
Tips to Improve Yourself
1. Know your strengths and weaknesses
Only you know who you are. So only you can tell the things you’re good and not-so-good at. Identifying these things yourself will help you know which area you should take advantage of and which you should improve.
If you’re not sure about your strengths and weaknesses, ask a close friend or a family member. Or find someone who can be completely honest with you and who hopes for your well-being. You should also be willing to admit your weaknesses so you can truly start working on them.
2. Be willing to try out new things
Another way to become better is to try out new things. It’ll help you learn more about what you can and can’t do. Because you’ll never know whether you’re good or bad at something unless you try it.
It doesn’t always have to be big things. You can always start small, like trying to learn a new language trying out a new recipe; or any new hobby you can do in the comfort of your home.
I know that starting something new can be scary, but remember that no one grows by staying within their comfort zone. You might not end up liking a few things. But mustering the courage alone to try something new is already an achievement in itself.
3. Stop comparing yourself to others
You hear this a lot, but it’s easier said than done. Especially with social media compelling you to do the exact opposite.
When social media is affecting your mental health negatively, don’t hesitate to go off the grid. Don’t be afraid of missing out on what other people post online, because the virtual world isn’t real.
Always remind yourself that we have different timelines. And know that with the right attitude, you can always achieve your own goals.
4. Surround yourself with people who care for you
Be with people who constantly encourage you to be better. Find the ones who will stand by you through the best and worst days. Especially during tough times, it’s nice to have people who support you no matter what. These people truly care about you and want the best for you.
You can pretend to be perfect as much as you want online. But at the end of the day, all that you’re left with is what you really truly feel and think of yourself. So we must always look for ways to improve it. Do it not for likes, and to impress other people. Improve yourself so you can reach your full potential as a mentally healthy person.
